Create a Dependency from a Windows Service to a System Driver RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

normally dependencies are between one Service and another Service. But there is for example the Network Connection Broker service having a dependency to the tcp/ip protocoll driver.

Is it possible to do such an deplendency for a .Net Service? My service is just using the network, so a dependency to the Tcp/ip driver would be good.

    thanks,

    Daniel

  • The ServiceInstaller class has a ServicesDependedOn property that contains the list of dependent components. In theory you just put the driver name there as drivers and services are stored in the same way except the service type. But a long time ago I looked into this and I vaguely remember that you have to use the device's group instead. Drivers start based upon their group order. A service can take a dependency on the group (properly delimited).
