Is it possible to manually modify the contents of a webdeploy package? RRS feed

I built a web deploy package with msbuild, but if I open up the zip and modify it and then try to deploy it fails- seems like webdeploy hashes the contents of the zip or something?

I dont want to apply a parameters transform to the package, I just want to edit the contents myself manually before deploying it- how is this possible without having to recompile?

What error occurred after you deploy the modified deploy zip package?

When you execute the msdeploy.exe, have you tried to deploy from your modified content folder instead of -source:package='D:\MyWebApplication.zip' as follows:

    msdeploy.exe -verb:sync -source:contentPath="D:\FolderToDeploy" -dest:xxxxxx

Moreover, I also use MSBuild to retrieve my deploy package, then navigate to xx\Package\PackageTmp folder, delete the file(s) and drag a modified file into the PackageTmp folder and override the existing file. Upon the changes, I could use msdeploy.exe to deploy my modified zip package to my web application.
