  • Question: You mention you're using .NET Core 2.1, but you don't want to run the EXE without .NET framework. Does that even make sense?

Btw, if you just want to write a Windows service hosting Nancy, just write application with their guide then follow the steps in the link you found to convert it to Windows service.

Since their project file says "netstandard2.0;net452", not sure if it can use in .NET Core 2.1. You make want to download the source, add the target ".NET Core 2.1" to the project target and see if it works correctly. If it can't, you may need to go back to .NET Core 2.0 or ask the project owner for the roadmap to Core 2.1
