Repairing PowerShell on Windows 7 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I get following error when trying to work with PS

There were errors in loading the format data file: Microsoft.PowerShell.Core, Error in file C:\Windows\SysWOW64\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\DotNetTypes.format.ps1xml: Data at the root level is invalid. Line 1, position 1.

I checked the file - half of the file is corrupt (shows weird characters)

I have a normal version of that file, however I'm unable to copy it over the original file.

I have tried several "copy \ delete on boot" applications without any luck

I had idea to boot with ultimate boot cd and then overwrite the file using some file manager, however I got advice that will not work for windows 7

Any other ideas how I can repair that file?

  • Resolved.

    • Downloaded Hirens Boot CD iso
    • Burned that to cd
    • Booted from cd
    • Selected Dos based programs\Mini Windows XP - was able to overwrite the file there
