Backup Pricing Question RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

Trying to understand how much I will actually be paying for Azure Backup Vault

I've looked at https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/details/backup/ but it's not entirely clear...

If I have 500GB of files and folders that I am backing up, do I simply pay for the "backup storage" per month, and ignore the instance charge.

And for my understanding, if I was to backup a 500GB Virtual Machine Instance or On-Prem state, I would pay for 500GB storage and additionally an instance charge on the >=500GB tier

    TIA

  • The pricing takes into account two components:

    - the number of protected instances

    - the amount of storage consumed by backups

The cost of the latter is additionally dependent to some extent on the size of the protected instance.

If you have a 500 GB VM you are backing up, you would be paying $10 (per instance) + the cost of storage consumed

  • Hi,

Your understanding is correct, if you have for example a virtual machine instance, you would have to pay for both the data of the instance + the consumed storage.

    Example:

    • Let's say you have a virtual machine (VM) instance that is 500GB.
    • You also have backup for this VM instance.

    Below is the pricing:

Your VM instance would then fall the following category:

So you would have to pay 8.433€ + the storage consumed by the backup, and depending on how much storage capacity needed you would have to calculate it from the following table:

You can use the Azure pricing calculator in the link below, it should give you quite a good idea of the price:
    https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/pricing/calculator

Search for Azure Backup and click on it to add it to your pricing calculator, then start filling in the information of size, redundancy, backup retention and so on and you should get a calculation.

Here's an estimation of an Azure VM instance that is 500GB of size + backup with 30 daily recovery points:

    Best regards,
    Leon
