Poor setup experience with Visual Web Developer 2008 - Express Edition RRS feed

I am trying to run the Visual Web Developer 2008 Express Edition

However, it it keeps bailing out on the first component Visual C++ Runtime Pre-requisites. It seems unable to establish a connection with the server. It tries 5 times and then quits.

All I get is a vague message "The following component could not be downloaded - Visual C++ Runtime Pre-requisites" and a link to a Download Troubleshoot Guide.

There is no indication of what the error is.

    Pretty lame user experience folks.

Any suggestions on how to move forward.

Hi, Please close any application that runs while your installing the VS08.

Then in Install Option in VS08 choose default Installation.

    Thanks

disable your firewall  or give permission to the setup files when it tries to install,

should install easily, but it only takes time.

    Thanks all for the responses.

I tried this again the following day and it was immediatelyu able to locate the component and install it. Unclear whether the issue was related to the server sourcing the first component or some Network glitch. I made no config. changes, juts waited overnight and tried again.
