Bing Maps SDK, Mobile App and Traffic Tracking RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Everyone,

Not a developer, but working with my team to develop an app for the Microsoft competition. We are looking to pull the Bing traffic data to use in our phone app (but not turn by turn directions). It seems as though this is against the SDK rules, according to the TOS on the Bing SDK site.

Does anyone know if this is the case? if so, is there a way to edit the flow of our app (through a possible web service?) that would allow us to still fall within the TOS of using the SDK?

    Thanks!

  • That's correct. The Bing Maps Traffic data can only be used within the Bing Maps API's. The Bing Maps V7 AJAX control and the Bing MAps REST services are the only two API's you can use this data with. This is due to the licensing restrictions on this data. What you can do is use the Bing Maps V7 AJAX control for your mobile application. It is supported on iOS, Android, and Blackberry 6. If you use this with an application called PhoneGap you can then create a Native application out of it.

Note you can access traffic indicent data using the REST services and use this with any of the Bing Maps API's.
