Windows Software Development Kit for Windows 7 and Microsoft Windows Driver Kit 7.1.0.7600 wont get installed RRS feed

  • Question

  • For the last two days i have been struggling to install WDK 7.1 with no avail so far.!

then i though i might need to install SDK for windows 7 in advance, so i downloaded it as well , then again this SDK failed to install as well!!

The WDK 7.1 wont give any kind of error so that i can figure out what is wrong!

Trying to check Full Development Environment option and install all, it fails.

After couple of frustrating tries! i installed Samples , Tools and Help files!  Build Environments fails every damn time i try to install it! only one time i could reach 33% and then rollback happens.

    it is driving me insane!

SDK fails as well. but it generates a log file which i couldnt make its head or tails!

Can some one please help me install these damn packs?

    Thanks in advance

This is the logfile for the SDK:

  • Don't know if you still need help, but here are a couple things to consider:

You need to have Visual Studio installed and up to date as of 2008 sp1 for WDK 7.1.  You can find that here http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=10986.

WDK 8.1 includes Windows 7, as well as some things that might apply to more recent installs of the Win7 OS that WDK 7.1 might not include.  Just to be safe, there's a table at   http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/ff557573.

The Windows SDK for 8.1 also includes support for Win7, with the exception of just a few things, like .NET 4. You can find that, along with clarification of what's covered, at                                 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/desktop/bg162891.

You'll need Visual Studio 2013 for WDK and SDK 8.1, but you can get a free 90 day trial here http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/hardware/gg454513#drivers.  Just be careful what you choose to include in your download--it can get HUGE.

For what it's worth, I haven't had any download or install problems with the 8.1 packages, but I wasn't using ISOs.  However, I have had better luck with ISOs by saving to and installing from flash drives instead of disks.
