  • Hello,

I would suggest Side by side migration if SQl server 2008 has SSIS packages and analysis service packages and cubes. Its a safe and method where rollback to old system is possible

    1. Backup all user and system databases.

    2. Backup/transfer logins using script method

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246133

    3. Backup/transfer jobs using Script method.

    4. If you have SSIS packages try migrating packages and test if they run perfectly on 2012  same goes for Anaysis service packages and cubes

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280546(v=sql.100).aspx

5.Move database from 2008 to 2012 using backup restore move logins and jobs do all types of testing on 2012 for current application if all goes fine make 2012 as your prod but don't decommission 2008 immediately keep it for at least 15 days ,just in case

6.If you are using Ent 2008 and going to Standard 2012 make sure you dont use any enterprise feature in 2012
