Visual Studio for Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm currently using Visual Studio 2008 with WinCE 7 BSP. If I'd like to start working on Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry BSP, can I use Visual Studio 2008 itself or I need to install VS 2013? My OS is Windows 7. Also, what all base BSPs come along with the installation of Windows Embedded 8.1 Industry?

    Thanks,

    6G

  • 1. VS 2012 supports Modern UI, but VS 2013 added support for Windows 8.1 extras

    2. Again - Windows Embedded Industry is NOT Windows CE. There is no CEPC. You can install it like regular Windows desktop on a PC or use the System Image Manager tool to automate the installation.

  • Are you developing a forms application or a Modern UI application? WE8.1I can support both. VS2008 only supports form applications.

WE8.1I is based on Windows 8. There are no BSPs since WE8.1I only supports x86. All drivers that run under Windows vista or higher will work with Windows embedded Industry.

If you are looking to move on to the next generation of Windows CE, you need to go to Windows EC 2013.

  • No, we are not working in Forms application. We develop Modern UI applications only.  So, I think Visual Studio 2012 is the least version that supports WE8.1 Industry Pro on Windows 8.1 OS (In the system requirements, I noticed it supports only Windows 8.1 OS). Am I right?

Also, does it not have even the CEPC BSP?
