Can I upgrade my Active Directory domain functional level from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 R2 without affecting SharePoint? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a single SharePoint 2010 server with a virtual DC installed within it (Hyper-V) running Windows 2008 R2 Standard. It hosts a domain called "domain-a.com" and has a netbios name of "DA". At the moment the domain functional level of the "domain-a.com" is Windows 2003 (due to recently upgrading our DC's from 2003 to 2008 R2). I want to upgrade the domain functional level to Windows 2008 R2 with the re-assurance that the SharePoint installation will be ok?

    Thanks.

  • Yes for this SharePoint installation should be ok but you never can revert it back to lower domain functional level.

Unless you have forest functional level is set to win 2003 then only you can revert the domain functional level to win 2008 from win 2008 R2 but not lower than that.
