  • Nothing has been announced about Virtual PC, but Windows 8 has Hyper-V
v3, and it works quite well if your hardware supports it.

I know Windows Virtual PC wont install in Windows 8, but to tell the
truth, I haven't tried an older version of VPC.  Perhaps I'll try now
    just to see. <g>

I don’t see any reason why VirtualBox shouldn’t install on WDP (Windows 8). I use it on Windows 7. Read/download Oracle’s VirtualBox here https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads Obviously, the Windows 7 version you intend to install must be genuine.

View the User Manual here https://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch01.html#idp8944400

Alternatively, you could install it the other way around, i.e. install Windows 7 then install Windows 8 as a virtual machine.

  • so u recommend using Virtual Box instead of Virtual PC

VirtualBox runs on the Home versions of XP, Vista and W7.

I deal with quite a lot of people so ‘I have to cover all bases’.

  • Virtual PC2007 runs on all those too, but it's blocked on Win8.

I haven't tried Virtual Box on Win8 yet, but I will in a bit.

  • VirtualBox ran an existing XP VM just fine, but I was unable to set up
a Windows 7 VM.  If I find the exact reason I'll let you know...

  • It was the USB integration, you have to disable that in order to start
Win7 Setup from a DVD.  After that it works okay.  You might have a
hidden taskbar the first time, but just resize the VM windows to get
    it back.)

  • VirtualBox does work with Windows Developer Preview. I currently have it installed on a test system.
There are many third party sites that give good instructions on installling VirtualBox on Windows Developer Preview.
Do a quick search and you will find help.

VirtualPC does not currently work with Windows Developer Preview.

    Thanks,

  • If your hardware supports it, I suggest Hyper-V, which can be installed from "Turn Windows Features on or Off" under Settings search.
