Sharepoint Internet/Intranet Topology Qs RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Guys,

I am pretty green with SharePoint and trying to setup/design SP 2010 environment for our company. Have a simple question regarding SP Internet/Intranet topology, what is the best recommendation for Internet/Intranet topology from network perspective?

Here is the lay of  the landscape so far (please feel free to advise):

Single Firm that has Intranet and Internet Site as two app pool

Internet site: Static Pages. May have some web parts but no colloboration and others. Anonymous users can see the site collection.

Intranet site: whole nine yards of SP features. ECM, DCM, BI but no search..not yet. AD authenticated.

WFE 1: It will host the application pool for the internet site
WFE 2: It will host the application pool for the intranet site
Application server: have all the service applications for the firm
DB server: contains all the SP databases and SSRS

Q1: Does it make sense? I mean from security perspective, can I simply have the Internet site on WFE 1 and put firewall/dmz in place so only AD aunthenticated users connect to WFE2? I wanted to host both Internet/Intranet site in the same firm simple its easier to manage and cost effect. What other options do I have, creating a separate firm for static webpages doesnt make much sense.

Q2: if i go with the WFE1 and WFE2, can I in future just introduce NLB for WFE2?

Thanks for the help in advance!!
