How to update 8.0 app to 8.1 while keeping 8.0 version?

    Question

  • I have an app on Windows Store that was targetted for Windows 8.0

Now I want to send a new update which is targetted for Windows 8.1

What will happen to Windows 8.0 owners? Will they still see the older version or will my app just disappear from their Store app?Is there a way to keep Windows 8.0 version unchanged and add a new version (update) that was targetted for 8.1?

    Thank you.

  • You can upload multiple versions to the store and users will get the most appropriate one for their system.

If you upload a Windows 8 and a Windows 8.1 version then Windows 8 users will get the Windows 8 version and Windows 8.1 users will get the Windows 8.1 version.

  • So, as I don't plan to maintain 8.0 version anymore, I can just leave it as "unchanged" in the packages section while submitting every new 8.1 version and just change 8.1 version. Is that correct? If it is correct, will the "unchanged" 8.0 packages be still tested by Microsoft Team for approval? Or will they just check the "changed" ones which will be 8.1 versions..

So, if current 8.0 version of my app has the version string: "1.0.0", every time I make a new submission for update, versions will be as follows:

    1.0.0 (8.0) - 1.1.0 (8.1)

    1.0.0 (8.0) - 1.1.1 (8.1)

    .....

    1.0.0 (8.0) - 3.1.0 (8.1)
