Slimming down DotNet 4 / 4.5 installation ? RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Why even the Client Profile of DotNet 4.0 pulls in full 2.0 and 3.0 frameworks? Looks not logical...

Also, both 3.0 Full and 4.0 Client pull in a Windows Process Activation Service, which in turn pull in a Shadow Copy Volume interface. In runtime, Windows Process Activation Service component unfolds into 3 services:

Windows Process Activation Service, IIS Admin Service, Application Host Helper Service.

I have compared with Windows 7 SP1 Professional installation, and these 3 services are not even in services list. Not disabled - just absent. Seems like these dependencies are not so crucial?

  • Are you using a template? If so there might be an error in the template. .NE 4.0 should be independent of .NET 3. and .NET 2.0. / / Book Author - Pro Guide to WE8S, Pro Guide to WES 7, Pro Guide to POS for .NET
