LCID chart incorrect? RRS feed

  • Question

  • When I examine LCID chart at :

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/0h88fahh%28VS.85%29.aspx

The LCID name for french is listed as fr-fr

However in my code when i examine the cultreinfo object returned by:

    CultureTypes.AllCultures

French is named as fr and there is not fr-fr present.

Is the chart wrong or am I reading the chart intent incorrectly.

  • Microsoft is trying to get out of the LCID business, since they want the user to be able to add Custom Locales. The fr here is a general local name as a fallback of sublanguages like fr-CA or fr-BE.

  • Thanks sheng. I just would have thought they would have added fr in their LCID chart also.
