  • SQL Server 2008 let's you store spatial data, using the new geometry and geography datatypes (just as you store text data using nvarchar , or numeric data using decimal datatypes).

    So, SQL Server 2008 is "spatially-enabled" - it enables you to store spatial data.

    However, there is no difference between a "spatial" database and any other SQL Server 2008 database - you create/backup/restore them in exactly the same way.
