New Media Foundation features in Windows 7 SP1? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Will there be any new Media Foundation features in Windows 7 SP1? Especially I would like to know if there are any plans to support Blu-ray disks, to decide whether it makes sense to wait, develop ourselfs or license such components.

  • While I understand this, I think it's unlikely we'll have BD support in MF for Win7 SP1.  We'll have to wait and see because nothing has been announced so far, AFAIK.  That's the answer for now.

Edit: March 19, 2010: SP1 is announced and there is no BD support in it.

  • I have seen no public statements from MSFT about what will be in SP1.

I doubt BD movie playback will be in it.  The most significant barrier is licensing.  This is also a key reason why the new formats supported in MF were not made available in Vista or XP.

I know... For this reason it would be a great help for developers if Microsoft does it once instead of each developer again and again.

They also did it for DVDs and created the DVD Navigator DirectShow filter.

  • I know it has been a long time since this thread was responded to, but as we get closer to SP1 being released (it is now in RC).

These are the only document I can find on what is included.

The Notable changes does not mention anything relating to media foundation.

The list of hotfixes does have some Media Foundation things in it.

Does anyone from MS have a list of anything else that it included?
