Not a valid Office Add-in error (VS 2010) RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created a Setup Project for my Excel addin.   It seems to install fine, but when I go to Excel, the addin is not loaded.  I try to load it, searching via the File, Options, COM addins.  I search my files for the ProductNameAddIn.dll, but when I click okay, I get an error:

    C:\Program Files (x86)\CompanyName\ProductName Setup\ProductNameAddIn.dll is not a valid Office Add-in.

How do I get the add in to load?

As shown in another post on this forum, I've tried using the Project Wizard and publish route, and have problems there, too.

  • In the "release" folder, when I click "ProjectName Setup.msi" instead of setup.exe, the problem seems solved.  The addin installs fine.
