Deploying addin on exchange RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have addin build in vs 2010 for outlook 2010, by using setup project we can deploy at each computer.

Now, our client requirement is they do not want to install addin on each machine,  they want to deploy addin at Exchange server, so that they can apply addin directly from exchange

is there any way to do that?

  • No, there is no way to do that. Outlook add-ins only run under Outlook, and the Exchange server cannot deploy them.

The best you can do is create a Windows login script that downloads the addin from some central location and installs it.

  • Group[ policy by itself may be too Little. Maybe advertising apps in AD (SCCM)? What you generally need is registry entries deployed on local machine (which Group policy can achieve) and place for your addin files that those registry entries point to. Maybe try if Network share mapped as drive will Work, this way you could use GPO to distribute registry entries and mapping of Network share. Not sure how VSTOR will react to this though, so you have to test it yourself.

  • You can't install the from the Exchange site. Instead, to automate the deployment you may consider using the Group Policy settings.
