  • Hi johny w,

currently it is not possible to developing with Excel using visual studio in Mac.

it looks like you want to develop with VSTO in MAC.

so that you can use the VBA object model and power of visual studio.

but currently it is not available.

please visit the links mentioned below that can clear your issue.

Will VSTO Work With Microsoft Office for Mac 2015

Creating an add-in for Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac?

Visual C# Office Addins for Mac

but you can develop App for Office using Visual Studio which can run on cross platform.

so it will work on Mac.

Get started with Office Add-ins (formerly Apps for Office)

    Regards

    Deepak

-- that sounds like a contradiction

the "Get started with Office Addins" page you linked says:

Open Visual Studio and go to File > New > Project. Under Office/SharePoint, choose Excel Add-in and then choose OK.

but i do not see "Office/SharePoint" in Visual Studio Mac.

  • Hi johny w,

you had mentioned that,"but i do not see "Office/SharePoint" in Visual Studio Mac."

I think you miss understand something.

you need to develop App for Office using Visual Studio on windows.

you can develop addin that can run on mac.

I did not mentioned that to create addin in visual studio for mac.

  • Hi johny w,

No, I am not saying you to develop VSTO Addin.

I inform you to develop Office Addin using visual studio on windows.

VSTO Addin will not work with MAC.

but office Addin can work with MAC.

VSTO and Office Addin both are different from each other.

I think you have a miss understanding in these two types of addin.

please visit the link mentioned below will give you some idea.

Roadmap for Apps for Office, VSTO, and VBA
