I have been looking for a long time for a fix on the following issue I have many websites on my IIS server around 40 web servers running most of them have SSL. The website  was made on .Net using Visual Studio 2005 and so on. the Problem occurs every time that a do several changes to the IIS manager, for example enabling content expiration, changing application pool ,etc, etc.. after several changes when I press OK or apply the server kind of hangs for a few seconds after that suddenly the web servers go to stop stage, and after turning them on I still have to recycle the application pool. the errors are at the end of the post.. Now why does it has to restart the whole service when many changes are done to IIS and if it is require how can I avoid them to get into a stop error instead of just restarting. Any help on thins will be very appreciated<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

I'm getting the same exact problem. If I make a change to the app pool or change the .net mode, I get error code 0x8007041d, and IIS completely stops. I've checked, and .net 2 sites are in their own app pool.

    Take a look here

I suggest to change asp.net only with empty application pool otherwise restart iis with iisreset /restart

There is a hotfix out there for this issue now.  The scary part is you don't even need to change the ASP.Net tab in IIS manager to cause w3svc to stop, you only need to look at the tab.

Wow thanks for the reply, I would try your solution, but we are almost done with IIS6, we have migrated everything to IIS7 which I have to say I am very happy, as it is very stable, nothing to complain.

but it does sound like you found the solution

    thanks again..
