Windows XP SP3 - Cannot find runtime using .NET framework 4.0, applications fail to execute. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm using Windows XP SP3 Computer, but runtime won't work, it's a friends computer, my computer (Windows 7) runs .NET just fine. It was just installed and it shows this error whenever you execute a program using .NET Framework/Runtime:
Unable to find a version of the runtime to run this application.

With an OK button below it. It won't work! I've tried rebooting it though, still it won't work! Help!

    Thanks,

  • Hi,

Thanks for your post. What version of .NET does the application target? And what version of .NET is installed on the box? After checking that, could you run another .NET application and see if it could run.

Please follow the steps below to see if the problem could be fixed:

Step 1. If the .NET version is below 3.5, we could use the .NET Cleanup Tool to first remove it. If the .NET version is 4.0, please uninstall it from the Program and Features window.

Step 2. Download the .NET version we just removed in Step 1 and reinstall it.

Step 3. Use the .NET Verification Tool to check the instllation.

Step 4. Install any necessary services packs for Step 3.

Step 5. Run your application again and see what's up.

Please let me know if there's any more concerns.

  • Have you installed .Net4 framework on the machine? It's not default with XP.

    .Net 4 installer

    .Net 4 client profile installer
