Major issue installing V4.5.2 Developers Pack on Windows 8.1 for Visual Studio 2013 Professional RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,
I currently have .NET Framework V4.5.1 and simply wish to have V4.5.2 .NET Framework on it as well.

So I get it from here and attempt to install it:
    https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=42637

After the intall files have been decompressed I get the error:

    Blocking Issues:
Setup cannot continue because a previous installation requires your computer to be restarted. Please restart your computer and rerun Setup.

I repeated this process 3 times and keeps failing.

It points me to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/framework/install/troubleshoot-blocked-installations-and-uninstallations which is not helpful to me.

Please help ASAP, thanks for your support.

    Regards,
    Anil

  • Hi,

Have you tried to uninstall .NET Framework 4.5.1 before installing 4.5.2?
If not, please try to uninstall.

  • Hi Anil,

Thank you for posting in MSDN forum.

Have you checked the Windows update?

Please see Error installing Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5.2 , GarretMP solved it by installing available updates. Before the VS setup, I suggest you go to Windows update to install all the patches. Then restart your machine, finally re-install VS 2013.

  • Hi Lana,

    Thanks for your kind suggestions.

I tried to follow the instructions of GarretMP but it did not help my case. His error is related to a "path" issue. My issue is a "Blocking issue" as mentioned in my report above.
I have Visual Studio 2013 Professional on Windows 8.1. I simply wish to have .NET V4.5.2 framework functionality in VS 2013. (I wish to keep V4.5.1 .NET Framwework in VS 2013 too). But I get this error:
    Blocking Issues:
Setup cannot continue because a previous installation requires your computer to be restarted. Please restart your computer and rerun Setup.

What I did next after your reply:
    1) Install the Windows Updates and restart the computer.
    2) Disabled firewalls
    3) Run Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool (https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/confirmation.aspx?id=30135)
    4) I then ran the .NET Framework 4.5.2 Developer Pack installation and got the same "blocking error" mentioned before.
    5) The Microsoft .NET Framework Repair Tool was also waiting for me to finished the install of the Developer Pack. It failed so I pressed "Next" on the Repair Tool to see if
it could fix anything. It could not fix this issue and created a "FixDotNet20171018085849373.cab" (12MB size) I could email or share this somewhere if anyone would like to see it?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Anil

  • Hi,

I wish to install .NET Developer pack V4.5.2. I have tried to do this via https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/download/details.aspx?id=42637 and it fails with the error:
    "Blocking Issues:
Setup cannot continue because a previous installation requires your computer to be restarted. Please restart your computer and rerun Setup."

Does Visual Studio 2013 Update 5 have V4.5.2 in it?

If so what are the steps to get my VS 2013 4 Professional upgraded to VS 2013 Update 5 Professional? Where can I get this update please?

    Thanks for your help.

    Regards,
    Anil

  • Hi Anil,

    Thank you for your update.

I find that you post another case about it, so I help you merged two similar cases since they discussing about installing VS 2013 on Win 8.1.

For the main issue, and when you tried the VS 2013 Update 5,

Actually, all prior releases of the Tools for Apache Cordova are incompatible with Update 5. If you have previously installed a Tools for Apache Cordova CTP extension, you must uninstall that extension before installing Visual Studio 2013 Update 5. If you require Apache Cordova support, we encourage you to try Visual Studio 2015 or 2017, which will also offer you sufficient functions for program development.

Any problem persists please feel free to contact us, we are willing to help you for more analyze.

  • Hi Anil Goindi,

    >>Setup cannot continue because a previous installation requires your computer to be restarted. Please restart your computer and rerun Setup."

A restart is sometimes required to fully complete an installation. Follow the instructions to restart your computer and rerun Setup.

In rare cases, you may be asked to restart your system more than once if Windows has detected a number of missing updates and is restarting to install the next update in the queue.

The following files are available for download from the Microsoft Download Center:

Download the .NET Framework 4.5.2 (Offline Installer) package now.

Download the .NET Framework 4.5.2 for Windows RT 8.1 package
    now.
    (windows 8.1_kb2934520)

    refer: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/2934520/the-microsoft--net-framework-4-5-2-for-windows-8-1--windows-rt-8-1--an

If the issue persists, I need your help to collect the complete log. Please use http://aka.ms/vscollect to gather the installation logs. After using it, you will find vslogs.zip under %temp% folder. Please upload the file to https://onedrive.live.com/ and share the link here.

    Best regards,

    Joyce
