LINQ to SQL Concept for handling large binaries? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

I'm currently designing a Server Application that must handle about 100 - 1000 users at any given time.

The Infrastructure is WCF for the communication and Linq to SQL with a MSSQL server 2008.

The Problem is, that each user fetches / sends back so called Jobs that are stored in the Database. Such a Job can be somewhere between 3 and 300 MB in size. Storing this jobs in memory on the server side is completely pointless. Till now, the jobs got pulled out of the database using SQLCommands, TSQL and the WCF Streamed Binding, enabling a sort of streaming.

Is there some concept using linq 2 sql to access a DB blob as a stream, avoiding raw TSQL and SQLCommands?

    thanks in advance!

  • Hi Klaus, I am pretty sure you will have to drop down to using System.Data.SqlClient if you want streaming support.
