Displaying 5000+ polygons using Bing maps v7 SDK RRS feed

Answers

  • Loading 5000+ polygons using XML is not recommended in general. That many polygons should be stored in a database. Once in a database you can then create a web service that only loads the polygons that are in view. You can further optimize this by turning the polygon data in to map tiles and then overlaying that on the map. This is how parcel data is normally presented on online maps. Using this approach I created this demo:http://onsbingmapsdemo.cloudapp.net/ which renders 175,000 polygons with over 2GB worth of Polygon data.

You may want to take a look at the AJAX Map DataConnector as it has a lot of this functionality built into it: http://ajaxmapdataconnector.codeplex.com/
