I installed VWD 2010 from a CD in the back of a Sams ASP.Net 4 IT book and it installed fine.

I then went onto MS's website to download the latest updates and without realising it began installing the version off the website, which I think is newer. Not having the time to complete the install I clicked on the cancel button and my laptop froze, prompting me to push the on/off button to shutdown my PC.

After I re-installed the MS web version I then tried to connect to MS's ASP.Net Configuration website tool on the website I was developing to set up my website's memberships however it showed an error message of "unable to connect to SQL Server database".

When I then tried to connect to the database from within VWD I got the message "A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to a SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error 26 - error locating Server/instance specific".

I looked in my installed programs list in Control Panel but could see no SQL database there.

I've uninstalled that version of VWD and re-installed it instead from the book's CD but still get the same problem and error messages.

I have now installed the version on the CD onto my desktop PC and as an interim measure, my daughter's laptop, and they connect to the database fine and thre are no problems.

How can I correct this problem of installing on my own laptop since I really need to be able to demonstrate my website as part of my degree final year project?

Would I need to uninstall the current installation and delete any residual files that have somehow only partially installed?
