We are getting the GenericInquiryFaliure error while trying to configure backup for the SQL Server in Azure VM (Preview) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have checked the AzureBackupWindowsWorkload extension is already installed in the server. We have also added the

NT Service\AzureWLBackupPluginSvc as sysadmin in the Azure VM. But we are still getting the above error. However this discovery is working for few VM's. Does anyone has faced this error before?

  • The following documentation details separate instructions for new VMs and existing VMs:

Automated Backup v2 for Azure Virtual Machines (Resource Manager)

    I have some questions:

    • Are you able to determine a pattern between VMs where the backup service is working and not working, such as VM version or backup service was deployed with new VMs or service was enabled for existing VMs?
    • Did you use the Azure Portal or did you use PowerShell to enable the backup service for existing VMs?

Your best course of action might be to open a support ticket with Azure Support to identify root cause. If you don't have an active Azure support plan please provide your Azure Subscription GUID and I can have a one-time support case enabled for you.
