  • Hello Hendrik,

OLE/COM is a relatively old technology. That's why you will not find recent books for that. I'd recommend reading simple C++ books first, only then you can start learning the COM technology.

  • C++ is not the problem,

at least as long as VC++ conforms to ISO.

OLE/COM OLE/COM maybe is a relatively old Technology, but it is still used by MS for instance for the C# Excel Interops.

My use case is for a XLl written in C/C++ which should dynamicaly indent cells.

I know two ways to call Excel functionality from C/C++

    a) C-Api:

Unfortunatly indent via C-Api only works for Asian Excel Version.

    b) OLE/Com Automation

    That's new for me.

Your answer gives the impression, that there is a third way.

  • Hello Hendrik,

What exactly do you want implement?

You may also consider using the Open XML SDK or any third-party controls (for example, aspose).

  •  Open XML SDK is #Net, not C/C++.

    back again to original question:

    a) The book listed in

    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/152023/en-us

    are from the last milenium.

Is their content still valid ?

    b)David Kruglinski's "Inside Visual C++" (ISBN:1-57231-565- 2)

is in fact [Inside Visual C++ Version 5.0]

Amazon claims that there is a newer Version

Programming Microsoft Visual C++,  David J. Kruglinski. 1572318570

    which covers VC6

Does this also has the content of chapter 24 of Inside Visual C++ Version 5.0 ?
