  • Hi shirish,

Since Office 2007, the Word document format is OpenXML format which is an open standard and are based on well-known technologies: ZIP and XML.

You can create, open and update Office OpenXML format document via OpenXML SDK (without Office Application installed).

But it is impossible if you are meaning “View” this document without Office Application installed.

    Hope it helps.

Possibly. It would require software that can open and display a Word document - a "reader" of some kind. It can also be viewed in a Word "Web app" (from Skydrive, for example) or opened in Open Office (I think).

Basically, in order to see a Word document as a Word document it requires software that can render it on-screen. It doesn't have to be Word, but the software must know how to interpret the document and display it.
