Uninstalling previous version of Visual Studio?

All replies

  • In theory yes, because VS 2017 uses a very isolated installation, with its own private registry hive and without using the Global Assembly Cache. So isolated that even different editions (Community, Professional, Enterprise) can coexist on the same machine, something that was not possible before.

In the worst case a Repair of VS 2017 should be fast.

  • Hi WGMaker,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

Like Carlos said, you can install the VS 2017 side by side with VS 2015, please have a look at this: VS 2017 RC FAQ and we can find this information. In other words, if you already installed VS 2015, you can directly install 2017 and no need to uninstall the previous version. Usually, the VS with different versions (year) like VS 2010, VS 2012, VS 2013 and VS 2015 all can existing on the same computer.

    Best regards,

    Sara
