Should we use .net on 2012 server RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are moving a web based program from 2000 server running .net 2.0 to a 2012 server running .net 4.0

The software developers have said the will not update the software to use .net 4.0 so we would need to put .net 2.0 on the 2012 server.

I do not like the idea of using 2.0 on a new server. My concerns are security and how long will there be patches for .net 2.0

Does anyone know if there are risks in keeping .net 2.0?

    Thank you,

    Lisa

  • Because .NET 2.0 is the core of .NET 3.5.1 (AKA 3.5 SP1), and the support lifecycle for .NET versions follows that of the Windows versions in which they are embedded, you need not be overly concerned about patches until support runs out for Windows 8.1, at least.

I would get .NET 3.5.1 activated on the 2012 server and test the software as is.
