  • Question

  • Hi..

One of the OLTP SQL 2012 database is windows authentication..

In this security setting - how can application to be accessing and connecting database with trusted connection in application side.

    1. one domain id added into SQL security after that the same domain id logged into PC client side then able to access application. it is working ok.

    2. In organization total 150 users wants access that application and all are in there own domain id, so in this situation

    a. Does it require to add 150 domain user into SQL security? or

    b. Will it create domain group in AD and added into all the users to them? and  does it connect application if added that domain group into SQL security?

Pls. suggest, what is the suitable solution in SQL windows authentication for accessing all 150 domain users.

  • Hi SQLGalaxy,

In the case that Impersonation/Delegation is not involved, to access SQL Server with a trusted connection, the windows service account of the application should be an authorized Login with proper permission. Any user that has access to the application can access SQL Server with the same login, namely the login for the windows service account.

Regarding the Impersonation/Delegation cases, which is out of my field and expertise, AFAIK each caller should has an individual login for their own windows authentication. Say 150 domain users with 150 windows authentication logins. However if those 150 users are in one same AD group, you can create only one windows authentication login for that group account.
