API to use Installed Scanners in Metro Apps RRS feed

  • Question

  • HI,

I am very new to Metro apps & saw a sample which uses WebCam using an API very easily. Can we use the installed scanners same way.

Is there any way to integrate it ?

    Please help,

    Thanks

  • Hi Pankaj,

There isn't a scanner API for Windows Store apps.

  • Hi Rob, are you saying that there is no way to use a scanner within a Windows Store app? Neither WIA would work?

  • Correct. WIA is available to desktop apps only, not Windows Store apps.

  • Really cool. Is there any specific reason why Microsoft decided that Windows Store applications would not need scanners? Are there plans to support scanners in the future?

  • Actually, the scanner vendor delivers the scan app and can share the scan result with other apps. I would hope the scanner app shares the actual images alongside with some meta infos in form xml or json.
