  • In what way do you want to analyze the log file?

  • I have applications that output textual log files like IIS that I want to parse just like IIS logs are.

  • I don't use IIS, so "just like IIS logs are" doesn't mean anything to me.

You seem to know what "parsing" is, but it is unclear what part of the concept you are having trouble with.

  • I was under the impression that the Message Analyzer forum was the correct forum.

  • This is the correct forum.

Je noeed to create a .config file with the parsing you want and place it in the %localappdata%\Microsoft\MessageAnalyzer\OPNAndConfiguration\TextLogConfiguration\DevicesAndLogs folder.

See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/message-analyzer/addendum-1-configuration-requirements-for-parsing-customtext-logs for more documentatiom. Especially the OPN Configuration Guide for Text Log Adapter.

With that and the examples in the DevicesAndLogs folder that come with Message Analyzer you have the basics.

But depending on your log file structure it can be quite a task to create something from scratch.
