  • Question

  • Is there any specific role that needs to be assigned for the user to have the rights to open the stored procedure from management studio?

  • By 'open stored procedure' I understand that you mean 'able to view or script out the code of the stored procedure.'

The person needs to have the ability to see the code definitions.   One way is to grant the VIEW DEFINITION permission.   See:

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms175808.aspx

This can be granted for the server, a database, a schema in a database, or to a specific object.  That way you have as much control as you want to use.
