The path of the item '(null)' is not valid on drillthrough report in winforms RRS feed

  • Question

  • Using VS 2008, Winforms, .Net 3.5, SSRS 2008, ReportViewer processing mode is set to Remote. The initial server report appears fine. But upon clicking any value that is supposed to launch a drill through report, I get "The path of the item '(null)' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long.....(rsInvalidItemPath). The drill through works great when run from sql report manager, or from a web application using the webforms reportviewer. But in winforms, the drillthrough actions that cause the null path exception, which again, work just fine on the web.

Does the path for the "go to report" action need to be setup differently for usage with winforms vs webforms? When that null path error occurs, the error does appear in the report servers log. So it is trying to go back to the server to retrieve the drillthrough report, but the path to the report appears to be null at that point. However, if I export the main report to MHTML from the winforms control, the links are all there.

    Any help is appreciated.
