Creating excel workbook with VS 2010 and Office 2013.... RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have VS 2010 installed with Office 2013. I have installed the VSTO run time 4. However when I try creating excel 2010 workbook I get the following error message "Cannot create the project because the application associated with this project type is not installed on this computer. You must install the Microsoft Office application that is associated with this project type.". Any workarounds.

  • If you are using VS 2010 and an Excel "2010" template, then the particular (in this case, 2010) version of Excel needs to be installed on the machine.

The officially-supported scenario is to use the lowest-common-denominator version of Office on the developer box, along with the corresponding project.  Your 2010 add-in will run on Office 2013 once published, but your dev box needs to have 2010 on it.

    Hope this helps,
