MSDN License for Infrastucture support people in Non Production System (BizTalk 2013) RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi

We have two separate teams that will have access to BizTalk 2013 Servers in our Non-Production environment.

Development Team: This team does Development and Testing on BizTalk non-prod machines. They all already have MSDN licenses.

Infrastructure support Team: This only does installations and other deployment activities. This team does not write code or do any testing on BizTalk servers. Development team provides them installation binaries and they just deploy them on BizTalk servers (non Production).

Our question is, "Does the Infrastrucure support Team requires MSDN license for installing or deploying the application in NON prodcution environment?"

    Thanks,

    Sasi.

Yes.  You either license everyone who access the environment with MSDN (except end-user testers).  Or you use production licenses.

This is spelled out in the MSDN Licensing White Paper

Example 3: A systems engineer from the organization’s IT department is installing the software needed for a development
team—each member of which is licensed with an MSDN subscription—on centrally-managed hardware. This systems
engineer is not doing any software development or testing. Because a license is required for any use of Microsoft software
(installing is a use of the software), they must either acquire production licenses for all software being used in this
environment or they must acquire an MSDN subscription for the systems engineer that includes the software he or she is
    installing.
