dotNet Framework 4 Download Error 0x800C0005 RRS feed

  • Question

    1. <<< (Ignore the number please)

I am trying to download .net framework 4, and it keeps giving me the error (0x800C0005). I have tried downloading it from the web installer, the installer that came with my Terraria Game (for which .net 4 is needed), I have also tried using the full setup. But it keeps giving me errors which leads me to believe that it is corrupt (re downloaded the full setup 5 times).I currently have no .net framework software installed on my computer.

Here is the error report I got from %temp%.

It is always around 35 minutes when it fails (probably a time out)

I should also note that I am unable to download software or patches from the Microsoft website, as it gives me this error in all browsers.

Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to download.microsoft.com

I now believe you have all the information you need to diagnose my issues.
      Good luck and godspeed!

  • Actually, we don't have all the information we need.

Your comments about inability to get updates throiugh Windows Update, and inability to connect to Microsoft sites (which work fine) tells me you have issues far beyond the inability to install .NET Framework 4.0. Those issues should be addressed and resolved *before* you make further install attempts.

The best place to address your general problems with XP is here:

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp

Once you have the update and connection issues fixed, then return to these steps.

First, please clean up from the failed installs with this tool:

    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2008/08/28/8904493.aspx

Be careful to remove *only* .NET Framework 4.0 entries, if any.

Then, download the full standalone installer for .NET Framework 4.0:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=17718

Note: your current connectivity issues could be causing corruption in everything you download.

    Before *any* install attempt:

Clean out your %temp% directory, reboot, then disable your AV software and any firewalls.

Run the standalone installer from an account that has full administrative proveleges.

If it fails again,  collect the logs with this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=e0da314f-6216-4a18-bc6b-7d29cf83af20&displaylang=en

Run Collect.exe. When it finishes, you'll find vslogs.cab in your %temp% directory. Upload vslogs.cab to a public site, like SkyDrive, then post the link here.

  • Not to be rude or anything but, the Microsoft website is the only place I can't "connect to". But I can navigate around the website fine it's just I cannot download anything. Plus I have tried the standalone installer and it gives me an "unspecified error". I have tried downloading this on several computers, on several networks, and it always gives me the same error. But I will use that first link and try first before giving up (sorry if this seems arrogant but that is my nature (which I hate)).

P.S. Your answer is extremely appreciated!

  • Hi Knuckleder,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

According to the description of your problem, you failed to download anything from Microsoft.

First, I recommend you open the pages MVP mentioned via Internet Explorer.

If it does not work, in my opinion, this issue is related to your network connection. Thus, I recommend you go to the Windows Answer forum to repair your network environment.

The best place to address your general problems with XP is here:

If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.
