Where to obtain a license for Windows Embedded Compact? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am an academic researcher trying to obtain a license of Windows Embedded Compact (6.0 or 7.0) in order to get access to the Private Shared Source code, particular to the Kernel Library. I have gotten no closer to being able to speak to a Microsoft representative, or finding a non-dead link to purchase my own copy.

Can anybody here help with my endeavor?

  • Your local Microsoft rep might be able to help you purchase Platform Builder for Windows CE 6.0/Compact 7.  But purchasing an MSDN license might be the only way to get it anymore - I will leave it to you to verify that MSDN still contains those old version, but it should.

But you are looking for a product that Microsoft no longer supports.

The private code that comes with Platform Builder may not contain the source that you hope to get.  There is more though a special license.  Michel Verhagen at may still have contacts for getting access to that.
