Issues with opening a Webpart Page in SharePoint designer 2007 RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hey,

I created a Blank Webpart page in team site and want to edit in the SharePoint Designer 2007, while i am trying to edit it its popping up with two options

    1 Edit In Browser

    2 Edit PageLayout

Chose option 2, but the new message popped out http://spdesigner/_catalogs/masterpage/BlankWebpartpage.aspx The file is under source control. Do you want it to check it out, and then When I clicked Yes its pops up server access denied and Blankwebpart page with no master page will be displayed.

Could any one educate me on this??!

    Thanks all

  • If you need to add a web part  to the page using sharepoint designer.

    • Right click the page, check out and detach from page layout
    • double click the page.

This will give you the ability to add the web parts and customize the page. The popup is because the page you are trying to edit is under the publishing feature. It is a publishing page, and as such, by default, gets its layout from the layout page and the master page. You should be only editing in browser

You need to also know about customizing or unghosting when you are trying to detach the page layout and changing it.

navigate to /_catalogs/masterpage/ then double click on blankwebpart.aspx  and when ask you do you want it check it out? select No.
