  • The ecma specs probably are the most technical you can find documentation wise, if you want to peek in actual code the sscli is probably a pretty decent way to start.

  • 2 related books:
    Shared Source CLI Essentials by David Stutz, Ted Neward and Geoff Shilling ... Valuable when you want to look into SSCLI code.
    The Common Language Infrastructure Annotated Standard by Jim Miller and Susann Ragsdale ... More details about the ECMA standard. However it doesn't cover CLR 2.0 features (e.g. generics).

  • I'm surprised none of these guys recommended "CLR via C#" written by Jeffrey Richter whose AsyncEnumerator was basically the whole foundation of async/await. You don't want mere specs, you want friendly-but-deep narration by an author who has seen it all and done it all.
