  • Hi Kippaxr,

    Welcome to the MSDN forum.

First, could you please let me know your OS version and Service Pack level?

Which update did you fail to install?

From your post, you said you have uninstalled .NET Frameworks 1, 2, and 3. Since .NET Framework 2.0, 3.0, and 3.5 are embedded in Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2, your OS is not Windows 7. By the same rule, for Windows Vista and Windows Server 2008, .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0 are embedded in, so it also is not your OS version. Also, for Windows Server 2003 R2, .NET Framework 2.0 is embedded in, so it should not be your OS. The last eliminate, for Windows Server 2003, .NET Framework 1.1 is embedded in. Thus, I guess your OS is Windows  XP or older.

Second, I recommend you go to Control Panel>>Add/Remove programs after you uninstall all .NET Frameworks installed on your machine, then find and uninstall all updates about .NET Frameworks.

    ·         If what you failed to install previously is a update, I recommend you reinstall all .NET Frameworks first and try to install this update. You can download .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=25150. It will automatically install .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, .NET Framework 3.0 Sp2, and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. You also can download .NET Framework 1.1 here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=26, and .NET Framework 1.0 here: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=96

    ·         If what you failed to install is a new version of .NET Framework, I guess it probably is .NET Framework 3.5 or .NET Framework 4.0. For .NET Framework 3.5, I recommend you try to download  and install from: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=25150. For .NET Framework 4.0, you can download and install from: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=17718. NOTE: For .NET Framework 4.0, Service Pack 3 of Windows XP is required.

In addition, I strongly recommend you install latest Service Pack for your OS. Before you try to uninstall it, please clean up %temp% folder and complete all Windows updates. Make sure all antivirus and antispyware are turned off during the installation. Then run setup.exe under administrator. If you encounter any problem, use the Visual Studio and .NET Log Collection Utility to collect the logs and upload the vslogs.cab to an open website like: Windows Live SkyDrive or send it to me (v-alsun_at_microsoft_dot_com).

If you have any other concerns, please feel free to let me know.
