  • Question

  • I am attempting to use power pivot in excel 2013. I followed the instructions to activate it in the COM add- in menu, but it does not list power pivot. The two add-ins that are listed are power map and send to bluetooth. How do I activate power pivot?

  • Hi Gaspari,

According to your description, PowerPivot not appear in ribbon in your Excel, right?

If that is the case, this issue can be caused by the registry keys that provide the add-in information to the Add-in Manager are damaged or set to invalid values.please follow the steps below.

    1. Close Excel.
    2. Point to Start > Run and then type regedit.
    3. In Registry Editor, expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > 15.0 > User Settings.
    4. Right-click PowerPivotExcelAddin and then click Delete.
    5. Scroll back up to the top of Registry Editor.
    6. Expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER > Software > Microsoft > Office > Excel > Addins.
    7. Right-click PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.NativeEntry.1 and then click Delete.
    8. Close Registry Editor.

  • you open a blank workbook in excel and go to File->Options

    options

Once done, go to Ad-ins page, from the add-ins drop-down menu select COM addins and press GO.

    add-options

After that there is a window opened where you can see all you COM add-ins (both enabled and disabled). So next you have to check PowerPivot and Power View boxes.

    add-ins

Hit OK and you are done. How to tell that everything is alright? You should check in the INSERT ribbon if you have a Power View button and also if you have a PowerPivot ribbon on "margin-bottom:21px;padding-right:0px;padding-border:0px;font-size:14px;line-height:21px;font-family:HelveticaNeue, 'Helvetica Neue', Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;vertical-align:baseline;color:#444444;background-color:#ededed;">

    powerpivotpowerview

    That is it.

  • What is the license of your Office installation? Power Pivot is not available in all SKUs for Office 2013, only the standalone Excel SKU and Office SKUs that are ProPlus or higher.
