Unable to mount/explore VHDX Profiles created from FSLogix RRS feed

  • Question

  • Greetings,

we gave up trying to export local profiles in FSLogix Profiles (VHDX) - since frx.exe is not working with copy-profile, know issue and Dev Team is working on it - and the Powershell Scripts provided from Microsoft as workaround were not working on all profiles.

We decided then to just let FSLogix create new Profiles and we will deploy via GPO or configure manually some settings later.

FSLogix Profiles and O365 Contained are working as intended, and everything is fine. But there is something I don't understand - even if the most important Files are redirected and not stored in the FSLogix Profile, in case of corruption we'd like to be able to mount the VHDX and extract some Files from AppData or whatever.

By using the scripts to migrate local profiles to FSLogix Profiles, we were able to just mount the VHDX either with the build-in function of Windows or "Mount for FSLogix edit" where FSLogix is installed.

But for all the VHDX created automatically from FSLogix the first time a User logs in, we are unable to mount such VHDX. We are running in a test environments therefore we rebooted the servers to be sure the VHDX were not locked or in use from other process.

We tried from different Servers, with build-in function or FSLogix explorer - all those VHDX, that are working as intended for the Users, cannot be accessed, despite the permissions on file are configured properly and logged in as Domain admin - The error is:

"You don't have permission to mount the File" with built-in

"Failed to mount VHD"  with Mount for FSLogix edit

Anyone can help on this matter?

  • Nobody got a clue? Can somebody at least share if they are experiencing the same issue, or are you able to mount the VHDX FSLogix Profiles to explore the content?
