Is time-stamping required for .cat files? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

After timestamping a .cat file Windows 7 x64 is showing  following error in device manager window:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

However, same is not applicable for only signed .cat file(not timestamped).
    I haven't signed .sys file.
So, if I submite a package for driver signing under 'Unclassified category' without timestamping a .cat file will it be allowed?

    Regards,
    Nilam
