SQL 2000 Greyed-out authentication mode options RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

On our BES server, the options to choose between Windows Authentication and mixed Windows/SQL Authentication are greyed out.  Having looked at various posts, I had a look at the registry key, "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\MSSqlserver\MSSqlServer\LoginMode" .  Or rather, I tried to, but it doesn't seem to exist.

There's a distinct lack of Enterprise Manager/Query Analyzer on the server in question as well, which may or may not have something to do with it.

Has someone performed a weird install, or is this perfectly normal behaviour with a BES server?

  • Might be an MSDE install, this has mixed mode disabled by default, but you can turn it on:

  • Thanks!  Found the key (found the 'find' option in regedit, which helped), and the login mode is 0.

That explains why: and, since I have not yet come across a reason to change things about, I'll leave it well alone. Changing the registry keys is too fraught for Wednesday afternoon!

    Thank you
