Access 2016 Form losing connection to data RRS feed

  • Question

  • I created a form (using the wizard). All was well - it was displaying my data. I switched to Design View to add a field. I switched to Layout view. No data. Form view. No data. I recreated the form. All was well. Switched to Layout view.  No data. In the properties the control source appears to be bound to the appropriate field. The underlying table has 127 records. Initial form: 127 records.  Actually, it's when I add a field from a related table that suddenly there is no data. Nevermind.  I didn't create the database and there is a problem with the relationship.

  • Hi Alison,

Best practice approach is to only use one table source per form to avoid potential issues like this one.

    Cheers!

While I agree that using multiple tables in a form's recordsource query requires a greater understanding of relationships and joins, I don't agree that restricting forms to single-table recordsources is a "best practice".  It's just a more advanced practice.
