Net Framework 3.5 SDK

    Question

  • After installing VS 2008 I looked around for some indication of where the .Net Framework 3.5 SDK is installed. Lo and behold I can not find it for the life of me. Nor is there even a program item in any folder which points me to the .Net Frameworh 3.5 SDK anywhere. MS has done such an excellent job of burying the .Net Framework 3.5 SDK as part of the VS 2008 install that it is completely impossible to find it.

Anyone care to enlighten me about where it may be, and how I can find and redistribute it when writing an application with VS 2008 which uses it ? Thanks !

  • The .NET SDK is always a separate download but the .NET 3.5 SDK comes bundled with the Win2008 SDK so it is a very big file to download and install.  I have covered many relevant questions in the thread below so post again if you have more questions.

What is the Win 2008 SDK ? Are you talking about VS2008 ? I would have assumed that the Net 3.5 SDK is bundled with VS2008, but since I could not find it, I started my OP. Is it a separate download from VS2008 ?

  • SDK is always a separate download the SDK for VS2005 comes alone so it is a small file but the SDK for VS2008 comes bundled with Win2008 SDK so it is a very large file.  Read all my posts in the thread I posted and you will find all the links you need.

  • Windows SDK is Different from VS. They are typically tied these days, based on the version of .NET that's around. So with VS2008 and .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5, you have Windows SDK 6.0 (separate download.) For Visual Studio 2010 it installs Windows SDK 7.0a. The Windows SDK standalone installer is SDK 7.1. The SDK comes with a series of development tools, which are esentially for development and building.
